Superbowl Sunday

I.

am.

bored.

I do not care about the Superbowl.

This is my idea of a Superbowl:

Oh, I just crack myself up.

I am sitting right here in my parent's living room.

The Superbowl is on.

And I still don't know who is playing.

And guess what The Lumberjack is doing . . .

Sleeping!

Shocking, isn't it?

So, I decided I would find some old pictures to supplement yesterday's post.

1)  The car that was better than Cloris Leachman, or whoever.

1974 Camaro.

Yes.

He had a brand new car when he was only 16.

What car did he give me when I was 16?

A 1988 Chevy Corsica . . . .

that I totalled one year later.

2)  My Dad at the charming age of 16:

(remember . . . pictures of pictures . . . . I am not high-tech)

Lovin' the wallpaper.

And the coordinating shirt.

Here he is at the Happiest Place on Earth.

(Name that place)

Hmmmm . . . .

3)  My Ma.

That's all I got!

What was your first car?

Happy Sunday!

  2. I'm bored too. I like football but don't like watching by myself and to top it off....i'm at work. Atleast I have a tv so I shouldn't complain but I can't help it...B~O~R~E~D!!!

Anyhoo...my first car was my grandparents 4 door Cadillac Sedan DeVille...it was AWESOME!! I loved that car!! It was a boat! It was so big and it was dark red. *sigh* the good olde days :-)

  3. Cloris Leachman has a very unfortunate name.

  4. Bored here too. How long must they draw this nonsense out!

    A Camaro!? Call me jealous...

My first car was a Ford Escort I bought used from my sister, and it left me stranded on the side of the road 3 times before I bought my next one. We were farm kids, and there was no money for parents to buy cars. We worked long before it was legal, so we all had to buy our own cars....

Of course, my dad would give us bottle calves, and sell them and give us the profits with no deduction for the milk, vaccinations, whatever. So, I guess it probably equaled out!

fun pictures, and yes, Cloris Leachman does have a very unfortunate name.

  5. I LOVE old family pictures! They make me happy and feel nostalgic (nostalgia?) at the same time.
The shirt and the wallpaper are funny. :)
I never had a new car. Or an old car. I drove my parents' station wagon, then their van. I drove my husband's truck. Then he bought a van, but he was ahead of me in the city we were moving to, and so my name was not on the papers. He bought a truck recently, and I've signed on that one, so I half-own it. Hope nothing happens to him...that's what I'll be stuck with, and no one wants our van!!

  6. My first car was a 1973 Chevy Vega. You had to start it by running your feet along the ground, ala Fred Flintstone.

Happiest place on earth? Probably Disney Land, although I'm from Florida so I would prefer Disney World.

  7. Disneyland and a 1963 Falcon. The window fell down when you closed the driver side door.

  8. My first car was a 1990 Nissan Sentra, purchased just days after I graduated from college almost 17 years ago. My husband still uses it to commute. It's been so reliable, I'm sure we'll drive that thing til its last breath.

  9. By the way...I have to ask this, it is important. Did you notice the Yoda on my post? Thank you.

  10. If Yoda is the tiny green man in the last picture, yes I noticed him. :)

  11. Sounds like we have some mutual feelings about the Super Bowl.

My first car was a 1987 Chevy Spectrum. I saved up and paid cash for it when I was 18. Until then I drove my parents white station wagon, their black, full-size conversion van, and my dad's very cool Mazda GLC. It was a five speed!

  12. Okay sweet niece of mine...
Actually your dad drove a camero, & yes it was a pretty cool car. You may not know it, but back then cars didn't just come with air conditioning-you had to pay extra for it. So although he did have a brand new camero which really was a lovely car, in So. Ca. in the summer time it was not always a great ride (unless you were fortunate to live by the beach :). Cloris Leachman is an Academy award winner for "The Last Picture Show", as well as the other things listed here by your other blog followers. So yeah, it did throw your dad for a loop that his car was better. Blazing Saddles... it's gotta be a guy thing because I think pretty much any guy you ask will say they loved & still love that movie. I know your Uncle Hank would, I think your cousin Jeff would too. Your dad is right lots of great memories! To be honest sweet girl, you so remind me of your mom. She too has the ability to tell great stories, & we so miss all the fun times with both your mom & dad. So much laughter & good times, & yes, your little guy looks alot like your dad! Hugs to you all!

  13. Thanks for the heads up about that picture not working- I fixed it. I think your superbowl looks delicious! I had a giant bowl of ice cream tonight and didn't watch a second of football. I found that picture of kendra when I googled to see who won at midnight lol!

  14. I had a Nova. It was awful. The brakes practically threw you through the windshield. I loved having a car though! My parents bought me a Toyota Celica in college and it was so cute. I really did love that one.

    I'm guessing Disney?

  15. I win. I had a 1968 Karmann Ghia which is still a cool car. You got the best idea for a Superbowl. I too am not interested in the ridiculous hoohah over some brutes running around with a ball. Although I'm very happy for New Orleans and Louisiana which has seen a lot of grief in recent years. Tell Dave I like knives too. But most especially scissors. They're my favorite.

  16. No one at church asked us to a Super Bowl party. Did I care? No. I did not. We went home and watched Sound of Music for the hundredth time!

  17. Thanks for letting me know that picture didn't work- I went back and fixed it! I think your 'superbowl' is the best I've ever seen :)

  18. I didn't even know he was in it or who won until today. The funny thing is that my mom, who does not watch/like football, kept asking me yesterday if I was going to watch the game. When I asked her why I would watch it or why she would, she said that it's the Super Bowl and you should watch. Besides, she likes the commercials. I pointed out that I could see the best ones on the computer or the Today Show afterward. I was told, I'm no fun:)

  19. Ok Taylor, my turn.... First off I do not recall ever trying to fix your dad up with Laura's sister. I think much too highly of my "little" brother. And yes he did have a cool car 74 camaro...Now I do also like blazing saddles. However my fav Mel Brooks flick is and always be "Young Frankenstein" "roll Roll Roll in the hay" Timeless!
I had to wait till I was 18 to get my "cool car" a 72 duster which I fixed up and drove your grandpa crazy. As far as jaws goes, if I told mom I was going in the water, she'd encourage me to play with jaws....My 1st car? a 1962 rambler which could not go over 55mph, and when you accelerated the windshield wipers quit working. drove it till the engine blew up I was doing 56 mph.
Great Great memories of growing up with your dad.

  21. 1995 Toyota Tercel. I loved that car. We called it Sherman...after the Sherman tank, which my car was the exact opposite of. It had 98 horse power. I only know this because my dad told me. I always wondered, why couldn't they have tweaked something to give that poor vehicle a measly extra two hp for an even hundred? Some things we'll never know. I backed into a truck in the YMCA parking lot and cracked the corner of the back bumper. My dad was really mad and refused to get it fixed, so I put a band-aid on the crack. My friends though it was hilarious and even my dad smiled. He didn't smile when I rear-ended an ford explorer at 1 mph and the hood crumpled like paper cup. I put a band-aid on that too.
